The Shanghai Expat Association again invited us to provide traditional Chinese musicians as entertainment for their annual Huang Pu River boat cruise.

This year’s event was attended by over 230 guests from around the world, all living and working in Shanghai.

The cruise, which is organized by the SEA, takes place around the middle of May every year and is a great chance for members to meet, catch up with old friends and enjoy the beautiful views of the Huang Pu River and the joint waterfronts of the Bund and Pudong’s skyline. The 4 hour long boat cruise, offers the participants a delicious buffet, disco and free-flowing wine, plus a mixture of entertainment ranging from the traditional Chinese music quartet which DDA organized, to magicians and dancing.

The musician’s, who this year were again headed by flautist Mr Lu Xing Yi, of the Shanghai Jiang Nan Traditional String and Bamboo Instrument Association, played several pieces of traditional Chinese music as well as some requests by the expat crowd, for some of their own countries’ traditional songs, were extremely well-received.
The band played for over 2 hours until the ship docked for the first time, and received very generous applause from the highly appreciative audience and have already been invited to play again at next year’s river cruise.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, mixing the best of traditional Chinese culture and Western hospitality and event management.
