BCC Hosts International Students From UK’s Coventry University

?The University of Shanghai for Science and Technology’s (USST) British Culture Centre (BCC) welcomed international visitors from the UK’s Coventry University for a two-week programme of cultural and educational exchange activities.

?The UK students and faculty members also delivered informal talks to our BCC students about life in the UK, British food, British culture and being a young person in modern Britain!
USST students introduced different aspects of traditional Chinese culture to the British visitors; including the Chinese zither, calligraphy, Chinese chess, Shanghai snacks, Peking Opera masks, Chinese knots and Tuina acupressure massage, which included a performance on the zither by Mona, one of Rose’s students, who also invited the Coventry students to try playing the instrument.
Rose’s USST students did an amazing job, and it was a fun introduction with lots of interaction with the guests.
The 30th March also featured a special “British journey” event by USST’s affiliated Sino British College students, introducing both our BCC international guests, along with USST students to British life and culture, including football, rugby and Shakespeare!
The fun continued on 1st April, with an informal April Fool’s party for the international and local students, which coincided with the beginning of the traditional Chinese festival of ‘Tomb Sweeping Day’ or Qing Ming Festival, where the British students enjoyed the traditional Qing Ming red bean dumplings and green tea.
The fourteen Coventry University students and two faculty members also participated in an interactive introduction to Taiji, with DDA’s Rose Oliver and Master Wang Ming Bo teaching Taiji, along with Taiji’s foundation exercises.
During the visit, the Coventry University party will also collaborate with USST’s Electrical Engineering Faculty on a joint project and competition, with USST and Coventry students forming groups to compete on a robotics project. USST students will later participate in an exchange programme and visit Coventry University in the UK.
Thanks to all our BCC volunteers for their help in accompanying our international guests and taking such good care of them.
Everyone had a great time, USST students really enjoyed the opportunity to chat with the overseas visitors and swap stories of university life across the globe!
This was another wonderful exchange visit and we trust that the reciprocal exchange of USST students to the UK will provide our Chinese students with a valuable life experience and educational opportunity.
