Chinese Cultural Activity for Visiting UK Teachers

It was my great honor to have attended the workshop on “Traditional Chinese Medicine for Health Maintenance” with the guests from Britain on the April 7th. I was fortunate to be invited by my English teacher, Rose to come to that event and I worked as an assistant and also as an interpreter.
I learned a lot, both in keeping my body fit and on how to improve my oral English.
To be frank, I was really surprised by the fact that so many foreigners are interested in Chinese Medicine, while we Chinese people, especially young people, seem to have little interest in it.

However, the free event let me realize that, like a miracle, our traditional medicine can cure or at least alleviate many chronic or serious diseases about which Western medicine still has no idea. So there’s no reason for us to ignore this cultural and practical treasure handed down by our wise ancestors and what we, as the young generation of Chinese people are obligated to do, is to find out about Chinese medicine and take advantage of it in keeping fit in our daily lives.
I have strong faith that as science and technology develop, we Chinese people can provide more scientific and theoretically precise evidence to prove our traditional medicine as a beneficial method and principle for all human kind. Only in this way can we have the traditional legacy recognized by the world and at the same time, make it shine brilliantly in the starry sky of human’s wisdom.

It was my tremendous honor to join this meaningful event on April 7th.? I was very happy to see all the foreign guests from Britain.
As a Chinese girl, I have not only learned a little Chinese medicine, since I am currently helping to translate for a nice young English lady who is studying Chinese Tuina and acupuncture as part of the DDA Tuina Internship Programme now, but I have also always believed in our medicine that has been handed down from thousands of years ago.
However, I was still little concerned about whether all the teachers from Britain could accept the general ideas on how traditional Chinese medicine can cure some common diseases such as fever, pain in the neck or shoulders, sleeping problems, etc, for there must be some big differences between Chinese medicine and western medicine on how to diagnose and treat physical problems.
To my big surprise, all the foreigners listened to Dr. Li’s introduction about meridians in the human body and their different functions very carefully.? We all concentrated on Dr. Li’s speech on the importance of changing some inappropriate life style and living habits in order to keep healthy, like having too much cold food and too much junk food.
????
After the theoretical lecture, all the guests had a chance to be more active in real practice. Although some of them were afraid of hurting their partner by pressing too hard at the beginning, such worries quickly disappeared after Dr. Li showed them one by one, the correct way for massaging the gallbladder meridian.
Moreover, during the course of the evening, several teachers had some treatment for other uncomfortable feelings and aches and pains they’d been experiencing; which were reduced a lot after acupuncture and cupping that evening. The other British teachers were fascinated to see the deep purple colour on one teacher’s neck after he had cupping and watched the whole process very attentively.
The teacher had suffered from a lot of pain in his neck over the years, which according to Chinese medicine is mainly caused by excessive cold inside the body. Amazingly, he felt much better after the treatment, as did the other guests who had acupuncture.
Everyone looked very happy and satisfied with the whole event.
????? For me, I had a wonderful time with all the foreign guests. What’s more, I felt so proud of our own medicine. It’s not just an important part of Chinese culture, but also can be very effective for actual health problems nowadays. It represents the brilliant wisdom of our ancestors who had a deep understanding about how to keep healthy and keep our body balanced, so that it can help us to get rid of some common illnesses which are caused by our wrong life habits or fast-moving life.
I hope the lecture and Chinese medicine knowledge did leave a strong impression on all the foreign guests, and help them to always stay healthy in the future.
I also enjoyed spreading our traditional Chinese medicine to friends all over the world and wish Chinese medicine will become more and more popular in the west.
