DDA again partnered The Alliance for Global Education, a non-profit partnership of Arcadia University and Butler University’s study abroad colleges, organizing another introduction to Chinese tea and jade on 3rd August, at the Hetian Jade Emporium and Culture Centre in Liu Jia Zui’s Zhang Yang Rd.?

Mr. Ma Zi Xiong,?general manager of the Hetian Jade Emporium and Culture Centre, also let the guests handle and feel for themselves the different qualities and characteristics of genuine, high-quality jade, including several pieces which were worth several million renminbi, so that they could appreciate for themselves the value of top quality Hetian jade.?

Ms. Xue Wei of the Tian Yuan Ji Tea Trading Company, also introduced the American students to some of the history of tea drinking in China and its place in Chinese culture and society, as well as giving them a variety of delicious top quality teas to taste, ranging from White Tea (Bai Tea), Long Jing green tea, Tie Guan Yin, Oolong and Pu Er teas; explaining how to properly prepare and brew these teas to bring out their best flavours.

During the event, as the students had signed up to a language pledge, whereby they promised to only use Chinese language during their activities, only occasional translation or explanation was provided by DDA president Rose Oliver, to facilitate understanding.

The guests finished the activity with a short tour of the Hetian Jade Emporium’s selection of prize pieces of white and mutton-fat jades, including some exquisitely carved art wares and large uncut stones, examples of Chinese jade at its finest.
