DDA & The Alliance for Global Education: Introduction To TCM Health Systems & Tuina Massage

DDA once again organized a TCM activity for students from the Alliance for Global Education, a non-profit partnership of Arcadia University and Butler University’s study abroad colleges. The TCM introductory activity covered aspects of Chinese medicine and treatment therapy, for a new party of American students taking part in the Alliance’s joint social and language programme in Shanghai.

This year, accompanied by their teacher, Ms. Felix Giron, the group of American students visited Dr. Li Yong’s Conjoint Health Advisory Service on Cao Yang Rd, where Dr. Li, with Rose Oliver acting as translator, introduced the students to TCM’s approach to illness diagnosis, treatment methods, particularly related to acupuncture and tuina massage therapies for a variety of common ailments and conditions.

Dr Li introduced them to a healthy eating plan, using fruits for breakfast and food combining for healthy lunches and dinners, as well as developing sleeping patterns designed to coincide with the internal organs regenerative processes.

Some of the students also got to experience acupuncture treatment for neck and shoulder pain and boosting liver function; and some basic tuina massage techniques, practicing percussion along the gallbladder meridian, to stimulate and aid digestion.

Thanks again to Felix for inviting DDA to organize another workshop for their Global Education Programme, thank you to Dr. Li for another fascinating lecture and to Rose’s students from Shanghai University and DDA’s taiji students for their assistance.
