TCM Pharmacy Tour at Yu Garden’s Tong Han Chun

?

Double Dragon Alliance in cooperation with SEA (Shanghai Expat Association) held another of their popular tours around Shanghai’s oldest working TCM pharmacies, the Tong Han Chun pharmacy in Yu Gardens.

The tour began with an introduction to the ancient art of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and how different herbs and plants can be efficacious in both preventing disease and maintaining good health.

The group of 20 international guests were also given a personal guide around the pharmacy’s own TCM museum, which introduces the history of TCM, the pharmacy’s roots from the past several hundred years and some of the ancient methods of prescribing and concocting medicine.

The SEA members also got to enjoy the ambiance of one of Shanghai’s oldest and most spectacular working pharmacies, with a look at the TCM medicine prescription counter and clinic, where they also got to sample some of the different medicines on hand.

DDA’s Rose Oliver acted as translator throughout the tour, and then together with Master Wang Ming Bo, chief Taiji instructor for Double Dragon Alliance, led the participants through some tuina massage techniques for good health, instructing them on how to practice the movements on themselves and others.

Everyone had a wonderful time and we hope they can join us again in the future for another chance to share the experience and hospitality of Tong Han Chun’s pharmacy and staff.

Thank you to Ms. Ye, manager of Tong Han Chun’s pharmacy for all her help in organizing the event and to Peter Wang for helping explain the uses of the many herbs on display in the museum!
