Rose Oliver was invited by East China Normal University to help translate for a Taiji introductory workshop, as part of their annual joint US and ECNU University Chinese Culture Immersion Course.
This year Mr Wang from ECNU’s Foreign Students’ Academic and Cultural Centre invited his own Taiji teacher, Master Ji Ah Dong to introduce some of the foundations of Yang Style Taiji to the students.
The group of 25 University students were from a mixture of different ages from Colorado State University and had come for a four week stay in Shanghai, to take part in daily Chinese Mandarin classes and workshops in Chinese painting and martial arts, as well as other aspects of Chinese culture.
The class covered some basics of Yang Style Taiji, pushing hands theory and some principles of Taiji and its differences to external martial arts.
