DDA & SEA’s Lecture on Feng Shui for Modern Living

SEA and Double Dragon Alliance co-organized an informal talk on the ancient Chinese philosophy of Feng Shui, at Costa Coffee on Anfu Rd as part of an ongoing collaboration introducing aspects of Chinese culture to SEA members.

Following on from our earlier introductory talk on Chinese Astrology, Mr. Wang Ming Bo introduced the audience of international expats to the ancient art of Feng Shui or Geomancy.

Although it is an art that is often shrouded in mystery and seems unrelated to the more modern scientific approach to life in the 21st Century, an increasing number of westerners and Chinese alike are looking to Feng Shui to provide answers to our modern day health problems, stresses and the negative influences that affect our everyday lives.

In fact, Feng Shui’s roots are based in ancient “scientific” cosmography and astrological relationships between the planets, stars, sun and earth and have strong links going back thousands of years to beyond 4000BC, where records show that ancient Feng Shui practitioners used the art in the constructions of homes and buildings and their orientation, in addition to finding the best location for cities, towns and burial grounds.

Wang Ming Bo, well known to DDA members as our resident Taiji teacher, introduced the audience to the background of Feng Shui’s philosophy, as well as its intertwined principles of Yin and Yang and The Five Elements.

As part of the lecture, the group of over 20 guests took part in a fun “Feng Shui” competition to design the best layout for an apartment according to Feng Shui principles, with the two best entries winning a complimentary Tuina and Moxibustion massage treatment with Mr. Wang Ming Bo, plus DVDs of DDA’s 2009 Martial Arts Exhibition. ?

Feng Shui principles can be said to align and balance structures, buildings and cities with yin and yang energies to promote harmony and positive energy and with our increasingly stressful lives, the fun and informal workshop was a way for all the participants to enjoy a relaxing coffee break, whilst learning how China’s ancient way to balancing our lives, living spaces and environment can help optimize and increase the positive energy within!

Thanks to Costa Coffee for providing such delicious refreshments and we hope all the participants will enjoy a happier, healthier and more harmonious life with the help of Feng Shui!
