Cultural Exchange
DDA’s Rose Oliver was recently invited to be a judge for the inaugural Orchid Awards selection process taking place in Beijing, sponsored by CICG (China International Communications Group).
Enjoying All Things Cultural
The Orchid Awards are bestowed on recipients who have made great contributions to the service of humanity, furthered cultural exchange and been involved in fostering greater knowledge and understanding of China and Chinese culture.
Judges & Nominees
Some of those nominated have worked for international media producing documentaries about China, artists, journalists, academicians, and curators.
The judges came from eight different countries, and all had extensive exposure to China and Chinese culture and were involved in similar fields as the categories mentioned above.
Enjoying Beijing
During the selection process, the judges were also treated to some VIP tours of the Imperial Palace, the Drum Tower, and Peony Gardens, as well as enjoy Beijing’s famous ‘Peking Duck’ at one of the best Peking Duck restaurants in town. And whilst the trips were wonderful, it was also a chance to soak up local culture and learn more about Beijing’s history and heritage.
Looking Forward
Thank you to the Orchid Awards Committee for their kind invitation, it was a great pleasure and privilege to be included, as well as a humbling experience judging these amazing people’s accomplishments, and am looking forward to the final results for the three awards: ‘Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding Achievement and Friendship Envoy’ being revealed later in the autumn!
