The event was organized by Rose Oliver and SEA’s events organizer Abarna, as a private event for SEA members, aiming to introduce Mulan Boxing and the fan dance in particular from the Mulan system, to some of Shanghai’s overseas residents, giving them an excellent introduction to Chinese culture and exercise systems.

Ms. Han Yu Ying, a Cao Yang district resident and long-standing Mulan Boxing practitioner and competitor, taught the group of 12 international expats the first section of the fan dance form, with Rose acting as interpreter and assistant coach.

Mulan Boxing is a kind of mild, aerobic exercise and is suitable for young, middle-aged and older women.?

The reason why so many retired, Chinese women take up Mulan Boxing, is because it is helpful in slowing down age-related conditions and preventing chronic illnesses.

Mulan Boxing constantly moves the waist area and lower back, which helps to improve the arterial blood flow and massages the internal organs; plus the bones, joints and muscles of the whole body are gently and naturally stretched to improve their function, thus improving health and longevity.?

Mulan Boxing has become more and more popular among women all over Asia, as it is also helpful in improving women’s figures, the moves are slow and gentle and after exercising for a long time, it can increase oxygen consumption, strengthen muscular function and help reduce weight, so it can not only improve the flexibility of muscles, but also help in increasing their strength.?

For many women, the beauty of Mulan Boxing is that it is also a mixture of martial arts and dance, and as such, combines the use of colourful fans and swords in its routines, making it one of the most attractive exercise systems seen in local Chinese parks today.
