DDA received a recent update from one of our very dear friends and supporters, Ms. Myszka Reeck, who’s now back?living in the USA and once again helping others in the community.
We wish Myszka all the very best in her excellent and inspiring work; she’s a true lady!?

Hi Rose, I am currently in Raleigh, North Carolina, I love it here.?
I just moved into a beautiful loft apartment a few days ago, it is wonderful. These apartments have been made from
an old tobacco factory and each one is unique, the large business at one time here was Tobacco growing and
producing cigarettes.
What am I doing exactly…well, lots and lots of traveling. I just got back from Berlin watching my son run the marathon
there and also a great visit to South Africa. Amazing! Also, I’ve travelled to several other places within the USA.?
Right now I am doing a number of things.
?
Duke University is a famous university considered very elite. My daughter-in-law is working on her PhD here and my
daughter would like to attend law school here too.
?
Meanwhile, I am volunteering at Duke Medical Center, which is a huge hospital. It is almost a mile-long walk from one
end to the other and many, many blocks wide.?
I direct lost people to their correct destinations and help them any way I can. Sometimes giving a hug to a crying mom,
or just listening to a husband, who is slowly watching his wife fade away.?
?
I also volunteer at Duke Gardens, where I hold a “story hour” and make crafts with the little ones.?
I greet people and give them tours (I’ve met some expats from Shanghai here too and lots of Brits who love gardens)?
And I also help host special events given, where I meet people from all over the world.?
At Nasher Museum I help out too. It is a modern art museum and I am on the Sister City Committee here representing
my city here, twinned with one in China, which I plan to visit next spring.?

One of the things dearest to my heart is helping children at the Ronald McDonald House. It is so heart-warming to do
whatever one can to help their families. This includes helping with the family room in the hospital on the Children’s Floor.
The family room allows relatives a place to rest. Some of these families have children that must stay a year, for operations
like bone marrow transplants etc. This room gives relatives and family a place to take a shower, do laundry, use the computer,
deliver free food, donated by many in the community etc.?
?
The Ronald McDonald House offers free housing for those that cannot pay and low prices for those that can afford to stay
in housing, while their children undergo treatment at Duke.?
?
I like the South. The life is slower here and people are very polite, they are very kind people.?
I am planning to come back to Shanghai in March for a brief visit and show some of my American friends around.
Life has been good to me. So many nice people have come into my life and God or the universe has been kind to me. One
of the plantations here offered me a job as a tour guide. Duke Hospital wanted to hire me. And my own apartment complex
wanted me too!?
Wishing you all well in Shanghai and hope to catch up soon!
