DDA’s Rose Oliver was invited to take part in the Foreign Experts’ 2014 Symposium, organized in Shanghai by the Shanghai Municipal Government’s Foreign Expert Bureau.
The symposium was arranged to offer a platform for advice and recommendations from a select group of foreign experts, who have been living and working in Shanghai for some considerable time and are heavily involved in the business and local communities.
The theme of this year’s symposium was to proffer advice on helping to promote innovation in China, and for fostering continued development in China’s economy, society, business and academic fields.
The 50 foreign experts were from a variety of fields, and gave advice on how China can further promote innovation in the fields of science and technology, finance, law, social sciences, and academia; as well as tender recommendations to facilitate foreign experts’ wider ranges of social rights in terms of citizenship and working conditions, with the objective of further promoting growth and development in the country.
After the initial meeting and buffet lunch at Shanghai’s Huating Hotel in Xu Hui District, the guests were taken to the afternoon’s symposium, where they had the honour to meet and be introduced to Chinese President Xi Jin Ping.
During the symposium, President Xi discussed some of the recommendations and thanked the foreign experts for their dedication to China and all their hard work here.
The President also detailed how important it was for China to promote innovation and invention, and to develop this innovative spirit among school students.
Following the symposium, the VIP group were introduced to the President individually and then came together for a group photograph.?
The VIPs were later invited to a banquet dinner to end the day’s event and reminisce about their excitement at meeting President Xi, and have the chance to socialize with the other experts and dignitaries.

It was a wonderful experience and the chance to meet China’s leader and so many amazing international experts was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
