On 27th May we organized a Chinese Astrology and “Life Charting” (Ba Zi) lecture for the Shanghai Expat Association (SEA) as part of their regular workshop and events activities for their members.?
?Mr. Lu introduced the audience of about 12 guests, including longtime supporter and DDA member (and Taiji student) Ms. Evelyne Tissier, to the ancient and fascinating art of “Ba Zi”. The literal translation is “8 Chinese characters” , which are related to a person’s year, month, day and time of birth and how they are characterized by the Five Elements and the corresponding Chinese Horoscope and animal signs.
?Mr. Lu introduced some history and background information, as well as how to work out a person’s own individual characters and signs, and some of the meanings behind the potentially confusing titles of these characters, the 5 elements and animal signs.?
He also took us through a life chart of newly elected US President Obama, indicating how the Ba Zi philosophy married up with some of the actual events in the president’s life.
??????????
There was also plenty of time for all the ladies attending the lecture to ask questions and the whole event was fun and informal, and due to the amount of interest everyone had in the subject, the event overran by about an hour! So, many thanks to all the management and staff at MoCa’s in People’s Park for their great service and patience!
We hope we will have more opportunities to talk about some of China’s ancient, fascinating arts and culture with the members of SEA in the future and wish everyone who attended a very happy summer!
Details of some of Ba Zi’s philosophy can be found on our articles page, where we’ve posted some information covered in the lecture, or you can apply to Rose Oliver if you’d like more details, or a reading of your birth sign.
