DDA were recently invited to take part in a “British” Culture activity for a photo shoot at Wei Yu Middle School, in Xu Hui’s Wei Yu Road.
The activity was organized by the British Consulate’s Cultural and Education Section in Shanghai, and was part of their school link’s programme involved with raising awareness of British culture in Shanghai schools; it was also designed to help facilitate Wei Yu School’s link with their partnership school in Norfolk in the UK.
?
Rose Oliver was asked to organize a traditional British cultural activity for the students and to assist in the photo shoot.
One of the activities was an Easter activity, very traditional in England around Easter time, that of painting Easter Eggs!
The eggs are first hard-boiled, then we colour the eggs by painting them or using felt-tip pens, making faces or other designs on them, or whatever takes people’s fancy.
The more creative the designs, the better; and in many schools in the UK the best egg will win a prize!
And for those not wishing to keep their eggs as a keep-sake, there is always a delicious snack at the end of the activity!
The students at Wei Yu School created some great designs, including some abstract and “cubist” style patterns, as well as some traditional Chinese designs.
The day was fun and also gave the participants a chance to chat informally with Rose, practice their English and learn more about the UK.
Plus, at the end of the afternoon, teachers and students from Wei Yu’s partner school in the UK also attended, which gave ample opportunities for everyone to really get to know each other and enjoy some cultural exchange and communication.
The whole day was thoroughly entertaining and a wonderful chance to get to know more about our different cultures and customs, we at DDA were really happy to have been able to take part.?
