Art Exhibition

?I recently attended the Ju Qi Chen Art & Culture Exhibition, held near Ling Shi Road’s Flower, Art? and Craft Market.

The exhibition which was organized by Ms Gong Xiao Lan hopes to become a regular event, with the third floor of the art and craft market in the future being entirely turned over to budding and established artists, like Beijing artist Mr. Zhang Yun Guo (whose work is featured on our art & artists page).

The type of art work exhibited ranged from calligraphy by Mr Zhang Tie Cheng, who also had some of his work exhibited during last year’s Olympic Games in Beijing at certain ceremonies; Mr Liu Gang, who’s peonies and flower paintings left an impression of being in the middle of a scented flower garden; Mr Jiang You Jun’s cleverly combined calligraphy and ink paintings, which appeared to be part painting/part Chinese character; Mr Mei Lin’s oil paintings, many depicting mountain scenes and the Great Wall; Mr Gao’s interesting calligraphy and paintings, often with a Buddhist flavour; plus Mr Zhou Bao Zhong’s mountain scenes. (Both Mr Zhang Tie Cheng’s calligraphy and Mr Jiang You Jun’s horse painting/calligraphy were featured in the 20th October Shanghai Daily newspaper’s regular “Scope” feature on a story about Double Dragon Alliance’s recent guest speaker on Daoism – see also their website: www.shanghaidaily.com).

The artists were keen to showcase their work and hope to bring a little bit of culture and artistry to this fairly “new suburb” of Shanghai’s sprawling city.

The artists, particularly Mr Zhang and his wife made me very welcome and I thank them very much for the hospitality and generosity!
