Double Dragon Alliance in cooperation with SEA (Shanghai Expat Association) held another of their popular walking tours around Fuxing Park with an introduction to the ancient art of Taiji on Sunday 21st September.
The SEA international members came to enjoy the beautiful and energetic atmosphere of one of Shanghai’s most vibrant parks and explore the health benefits of Taiji, which is regularly seen being performed in China’s parks and recreational areas by people of all ages and levels of fitness.
DDA’s Rose Oliver acted as translator for Master Wang Ming Bo, chief Taiji instructor for Double Dragon Alliance.
After an enjoyable stroll around the park, watching the various divergent groups of dancers, singers, maraca players and water calligraphy practitioners, Rose and Master Wang led the participants through several qigong exercises for good health and mobility, as well as the sequence of Grasp the Bird’s Tail, from the first section of the Yang Style Taiji Form, plus explain the meaning and background of the form movements themselves.
The two young guests got to enjoy some water calligraphy and try it for themselves, much to the enthusiasm of the local onlookers; and everyone watched enthusiastically as one international guest seated in her wheelchair practiced the Taiji movements with the group.
Everyone had a wonderful time and we hope they can join us again in the future for another chance to share the experience and fun of Taiji in park!
