Our recent feng shui and tea tasting evening held at the “Pu Er Story Tea Rooms” on Hua Shan Road, proved to be a very enjoyable and informative evening for everyone who braved the rain to attend the event co-hosted by Double Dragon Alliance and Ok Deal Club.
Despite the bad weather, over 20 guests joined us to hear a fascinating introduction and talk on feng shui principles and how it can be used to help bring harmony and balance into our everyday lives.
? ?
With the guests well supplied with delicious Pu Er tea by the assistants at the Tea Story tea rooms, Mr Huang Sheng delivered the absorbing lecture, with DDA assistant Ms Jessie Zhang doing a wonderful job of translating.
Following the talk, Mr Huang took questions from the guests on a variety of topics, ranging from choosing the best kind of apartment, to the Feng Shui and architectural design of the Imperial Palace in Beijing.
?
Such was the interest in the topic of feng shui, that the talk scheduled for an hour, continued for over an hour and a half, with many guests asking their own personal questions after the end of the Q & A session.
?
After the feng shui lecture, many guests stayed for the Pu Er tea tasting and talk given by Ms Qiao, owner of the tea rooms.
Ms Qiao, who’s from Yun Nan herself, introduced the proper way to prepare and brew Pu Er tea and described some common mistakes people often make when brewing the tea.
The frequent complaint guests made was that after going to a tea store and trying some, the tea they bought never tasted as good once they took it home and made it themselves.
?
Ms Qiao explained some of the main reasons for this and also gave some practical tips for telling the quality and actual price of some teas, to help guests avoid buying sub-quality teas or being over-charged and to be able to recognize good quality teas and their respective price ranges in the future.
At the end of the evening we announced the results of the feng shui game, which consisted of guests being given a floor plan of a one-bedroom apartment, for which they had to name which rooms would be used for which purpose and place certain pieces of furniture and objects like TVs, washing machines, etc, in the relevant rooms. The guest who most conformed to good feng shui principles would win a prize.?
The fun contest was won by two guests from the American Women’s Club, whose joint effort impressed Mr Huang with its uncluttered and well-balanced apartment layout. They were awarded prizes of 2 complimentary spa cards and a cake of Pu Er tea.
?
The whole evening was fun as well as very educational and showed the amount of interest both Chinese and Western people have for this traditional philosophy for life guidance and healthy living.
In view of the amount of stress most of us live under, especially in bustling Shanghai, it’s comforting to know that there are ways that we can enjoy some extra peace and tranquility in our homes and promote better health through observing some very practical and sensible advice from China’s ancient philosophers.
Due to the interest generated from our first “Feng Shui Evening”, DDA and OK Deal Club are planning a second talk based on the requests from many of the guests attending, of an “Apartment Consultation Evening”.
Guests will send photographs and descriptions of their own apartments, including as much information as possible and Mr Huang will analyze the Feng Shui of their apartment and offer advice for some improvements that may enhance the positive energy in their homes.?
We will also include a “Tea Brewing Workshop”, where guests can bring in tea they’ve previously bought and Ms Qiao will advise on how to prepare that particular tea in order to enjoy its flavour and get the best out of it.
Thank you to everyone who attended, especially for coming out on such a wet and cold evening and supporting the event and we look forward to seeing you all at the next Feng Shui evening, which is ostensibly planned for the end of April or early May.
