The audience of around two hundred saw in the New Year with some marvellous performances and traditional new year spirit, including lion dances, twirling dragons, auspicious songs and dances, a ‘baby mice’ performance and of course some amazing musicians on traditional drums to herald the start of the New Year of the Rat!
The Chicago Art Institute also celebrated Asian art and culture as part of their annual Lunar Festival exhibition, which featured a traditional Chinese shadow puppet show depicting the origins of the Chinese twelve animal horoscope, complete with a giant rat-headed puppet which thrilled the children in the audience; paper cutting and lantern making; Japanese drum playing; and ancient Korean ceramics; it was a feast for the eyes and ears!
