Background
Rose is founder of Double Dragon Alliance Cultural Centre (DDA), and is dedicated to introducing and celebrating Chinese and international cultures, providing a forum for mutual understanding, communication, friendship and business links. She is also an internationally recognized Taiji master and teacher, having begun her Taiji teaching career in the UK in 1994.
Cultural Bridge
Rose’s role is assisting people and institutions bridge the cultural gap between East and West, and facilitate positive relations with China.
Her work as a cultural bridge and interpreter, particularly in the fields of art, culture, health & wellness, martial arts, business and education, assists the international community and her adopted Chinese home to improve understanding and appreciation of each other’s cultures, build business links and foster productive, genuine, long-term relationships.
Journey and Beginnings
Rose immigrated to China in 2000, working in Shanghai since her arrival from the UK, where she previously ran a Taiji school and cultural learning centre near Cambridge.
In the UK, she taught physical fitness, yoga and taiji at the martial arts association she ran with her late husband, also teaching at children’s special needs schools, adult education programmes, and mainstream middle schools; where she introduced Taiji’s health benefits and philosophy. She also trained in other holistic therapies related to massage and physiotherapy, to aid her Taiji and Qigong health and wellness regimens.
Educator & Innovator
In China, besides founding DDA and her work in the martial arts field, Rose also continues to work in tertiary education, working with universities and educational institutions; including Shanghai University, the University of Shanghai for Science & Technology, the British Council, and the British Cultural Centre among others.
Over the last 21 years as a teacher in China, Rose has been awarded numerous national educational awards, including from China’s Education Board in Beijing, as well as her own universities. She has also been recognized for her dedication and committment to her students, having organized frequent off-campus events that offered her students real opportunities to gain confidence utilizing their English language proficiency, develop their personal and soft skills, and understanding of other cultures. It is also through this work that she has helped bring the topic of ‘innovation in education’ to the Board of Education in China, hoping to enhance young people’s future opportunities and potential.
