DDA’s Rose Oliver was invited to give a brief talk on British culture to a large audience of middle school students at Xu Hui District’s Mei Yuan Middle School. (梅园中学)
The interactive talk focused on aspects of British culture including food – like traditional Sunday roasts and pudding; sports – like cricket and football; the weather; and customs and etiquette. The talk ended with an introduction to Coats of Arms and Family Mottos, and a fun competition for the students to design their own coat of arms.
The seven most creative designs were then awarded prizes donated by the school, plus some British craftwork and gifts brought from the UK, donated by Rose.
The afternoon lecture was great fun and the students were very active and enthusiastic, and eager to practice their English with Rose.
