Tribute

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Master Michael Phillips’ passing on 17 August 2024. To everyone who knew him, he was a shining light of knowledge, wit, and humour, plus an avid explorer of traditional Chinese martial arts, philosophy, culture, and history.

Deep Understanding

Michael’s own practice of Taiji and other internal arts extended many decades, and his long experience was only surpassed by the depth of his understanding and skills. Added to this was his love and willingness to share his knowledge with his students, friends and fellow Taiji travellers. And we know the global Taiji community will all feel his loss most keenly.

Friend & Mentor

For Rose herself, he was a dear friend and mentor, and Rose was so happy after many years to reconnect on a trip to stay with him and his dear wife and life companion Susan in 2016 in Tucson. Rose always said how moved she was by his continuing interest in her career and concern for her welfare and wellbeing. He was truly a unique and special soul.

Condolences from Near & Far

All of us at DDA extend our deepest condolences to Michael’s wife Susan, and his many friends and students around the world. Wishing you well on the next stage of your Taiji journey Michael, you are deeply loved and missed by all of us who knew and cared for you.
